Alone in Barbados

The sky is painted in pastel
Yellows, blues, greens.
A half-moon resides
Above me. Powerful
Yellow-orange rays are
Bursting from behind a
Purple-tinted cloud.

A constant breeze
Billows from across
The ocean.

The sun makes
His day’s escape from
Beyond the horizon.

Or is it an escape? Simply
A journey.

The waters of
Barbados shine in
His presence. Turquoise;
Aquamarine;
Royal blue; and the
White crests of the
Atlantic waves. It’s as if
God is peeking from
Behind a cloud—in all
His glory.

I wipe my
Salt-stained glasses—
And proceed to begin
A new day.
